Support for children and parents in West Yorkshire

“Frankly when it felt nobody else wanted to help me Jigsaw was there for me. Made me feel like a human being… I probably haven’t even listed everything they did. Nobody knows what it’s like to be connected with someone in jail better than these people.”

Jigsaw’s Inside Out service provides support to children and families in West Yorkshire who have a parent/carer in prison.

Our support is available to:

  • children and young people, aged between 5 and 18, living in West Yorkshire, who have a parent in prison.
  • parents/carers living in West Yorkshire, who have dependent children aged 0-18 years old and have a partner/co-parent in custody.

Our specialist family workers offer support tailored to each child, young person or parent’s needs. We provide:

  • Emotional support – someone to listen and understand what you’re going through.
  • Information and guidance – help understanding about the justice system.
  • A safe space to talk – for children and parents/carers to share their feelings and experiences.
  • Practical support – advice and help to manage the challenges that can come when a family member is in prison.

Support can happen in a families’ home, in community venues, over the phone, or online.

We also deliver activity groups for children and young people and support groups for parents/carers.
